The RAC was founded by Charles Harrington Moore and Richard Simms as the Automobile Club of Great Britain
The RAC became the first organisation to provide mobile patrols
We began the first wireless breakdown service, with a central control room directing patrols to members in trouble
On our 100th anniversary, we rebranded to RAC plc with a new logo and orange patrol vans
We launched Motor Insurance, Home Insurance products and RAC Telematics to remotely detect problems in members’ vehicles to help prevent breakdowns
We broke new ground by developing the first lightweight, mobile electric vehicle (EV) charger capable of giving stranded out-of-charge vehicles a quick recharge at the roadside
As well as launching our 'We Come To You' service, we're investing in digital tech so that we can continue providing complete peace of mind to our Members for the next 125 years.
